Every dish has a page: what it is, where it comes from, how hot it usually is, and who cooks it near you.

What the app does

Search the food, not the shop

Type egusi and find the person who makes it, not a list of the nearest takeaways. Every spelling works, because the app knows jollof, jelof and party jollof are the same rice.

Know what you are ordering

Every dish carries how hot it usually is, what is in it, and whether the kitchen says halal, vegan or gluten free. Allergies go in a note the cook reads before they start.

Watch it being made

Accepted, cooking, ready, on its way. The kitchen can tell you if it is running late, and you tap once to say it arrived.

Keep the cooks you like

Save a kitchen or a dish and order it again in two taps. The cook keeps their customers, which is the whole point of this.

Where the cooking is from

How it works

  1. 1

    Find the dish

Search what you want to eat. Every spelling finds it, and every dish says how hot it usually is.

  2. 2

    Pick a kitchen

See who cooks it near you, what they charge, and whether they deliver or you collect.

  3. 3

    They cook it

Your card is held, not charged, until the kitchen accepts. Then you watch it through to the door.

Why not just use a delivery app

The food comes first

On a delivery app a home cook is a restaurant competing on price. Here, someone looking for egusi finds the person who makes it.

Kitchens are checked

Every kitchen is verified and registered with its local authority before it takes a single order.

The cook keeps more

15% commission against 25 to 35% elsewhere, and it comes out of the order rather than your bill.

“However long the night, the dawn will break.”

Questions

What is mamaPut?
A marketplace for African food cooked by home cooks, caterers and small kitchens in the UK. You order from the kitchen and they cook it themselves. We are not a restaurant and we do not cook anything.
When can I order?
We are opening city by city. Join the list with your city and we will tell you the moment kitchens near you are taking orders.
What food is on mamaPut?
83 dishes so far, across Nigerian, Ghanaian, Senegalese, Gambian, Sierra Leonean and Ivorian cooking. Jollof rice, egusi soup, suya, waakye, thieboudienne and more.
Are the kitchens checked?
Yes. A kitchen must be verified before it can take orders, and registered with its local authority as a food business.
Is the food halal?
Some of it. Kitchens tell us whether they are halal and it is shown on the dish before you order, so you can see rather than ask.
How much does it cost a kitchen?
15% commission, taken out of the order rather than added to the customer's bill, against 25 to 35% on the big delivery apps. Stripe pays the kitchen straight to their bank.
