Cooking for mamaPut

A marketplace for African food, where people search for a dish and find the person who cooks it. This page is everything a kitchen asks us: what it costs, what we need, and what happens after you apply.

The deal

  • 15% of each completed order, and nothing else. No fee to join, no monthly charge, no fee for your own page. The commission comes out of the order total; the customer’s bill does not change.
  • A £20 order: £17 to you, £3 to mamaPut. The big delivery apps typically take 25% to 35%.
  • Stripe pays you straight to your bank, on its own schedule. We never hold your money.
  • You set your prices, your menu, your hours and your delivery area. Switch off when you are busy. Leave when you like.

What we need from you

Most of it the law asks of every food business; we only check it.

  1. 1Food business registration with your council. Free, ten minutes on GOV.UK, and the law asks for it at least 28 days before you trade. Apply to us before it is done if you like; we need it before your first order.
  2. 2A Level 2 food hygiene certificate. An online course of a few hours, around £15 to £25. We need to see it before your first order.
  3. 3The 14 allergens, for every dish. You answer them in the app and customers see them before they order. The Food Standards Agency's allergen training is free and takes about an hour.
  4. 4Who you trade as. Sole trader, partnership or limited company, and your trading address. It goes on every receipt and on your page, because the law asks who the seller is. HMRC asks platforms to report sellers, so we will also ask sole traders for a date of birth.
  5. 5Insurance. Not required by law, but public and product liability is what stands between you and a claim. Tell us if you have it and when it renews.
  6. 6An Android phone and a UK bank account. The kitchen app is on Android today; iPhone follows. Stripe pays into any UK bank account.

What happens after you apply

  1. 1Apply. Seven short steps, about ten minutes, at mamaput.app/for-kitchens/apply. Your answers save as you go and you can attach your documents at the end.
  2. 2We reply within two working days. We read every application ourselves and check the council and hygiene records.
  3. 3Approved. An email with the kitchen app and a sign-in that is already yours.
  4. 4Set up in the app. Payouts through Stripe, your hours, collection or delivery, your dishes with photos and allergens, your legal details. The checklist shows what is left.
  5. 5Switch on. Customers can order, and you get your own page at mamaput.app/vendor/your-kitchen to share wherever your customers already are.
  6. 6Your first order. A loud alert. Accept within 15 minutes, or it cancels itself and the customer is not charged. Tell them when it is ready or on its way. Receipts and reviews are handled for you.

What the app does for you

  • Orders with an alarm, in a queue that works offline
  • Busy mode: pause for an hour, or add minutes to every order
  • Your menu, with photos and options
  • Earnings and payouts, order by order
  • Reviews you can reply to
  • Running late, in one tap
  • A direct line to us, with a written answer within three days

Where we are

mamaPut is new, and we are opening city by city, starting where the first kitchens are. Founding kitchens set up now, with our help, and open with us: card payments switch on the day we open your city, and until then nothing is charged to anyone.
